Delivery Pass

A new type of home delivery service is now available for your groceries and other shopping items, welcome to the Delivery Pass.

Online deliveries are a great and convenient way of shopping from the comfort of your own home or office. What’s not to like about doing this as you don’t have to fight with long queues, go out in the cold or rain and search the whole shop for just a few products you need.

But of course until now there has been one main setback namely the price of delivering to your address each time. Whilst there are free delivery online retailers for various fashion / electrical items many of the main UK grocery shops such as Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys and Ocado still require you to pay each time you get products delivered.

This is where the new delivery pass comes into action to save you money. In a nutshell you pay a one off or monthly cost which enables to have as many deliveries as you want within the time span that your delivery pass is active. You could in theory have a home delivery every day if you wanted to, all included in the one price you originally paid.

Obviously these delivery passes will be very beneficial if you regularly use a grocery store’s delivery service anyway and want to save a few pounds on your overall shopping costs.

We outline below the four current UK retailers that are using the delivery pass scheme and briefly list costs and applicable details for use. For fuller further details about each companies scheme please load their specific webpage; Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Ocado.

Asda Delivery Pass

Asda offers two delivery passes to choose from; the first is valid for one month costing £8.00 and the second delivery pass costs £24.00 which is valid for three months.

Both of Asda’s delivery passes have a minimum individual spend of £40.00 for groceries and a £10.00 minimum spend for Asda Direct and George clothing.

You can use your Asda delivery pass on groceries straight away and on Asda Direct and George clothing after 24 hours.

You get to choose from any grocery home delivery slot currently available and any standard delivery slot available for George & Asda Direct.

Tesco Delivery Pass

Tesco’s delivery pass is actually called delivery saver instead and consists of two main services; anytime plans from £10.00 a month and midweek plans (Tuesday to Thursday only) from £7.50 a month. All the Tesco plans have a minimum individual spend of £40.00.

Tesco’s four anytime plans (Seven days a week delivery)

Three month pay upfront – £36.00 one off payment.
Three month pay monthly – £12.00 per month.

Six month pay upfront – £60.00 one off payment.
Six month pay monthly – £10.00 per month.

Tesco’s four midweek plans (Tuesday – Thursday)

Three month pay upfront – £27.00 one off payment.
Three month pay monthly – £9.00 per month.

Six month pay upfront – £45.00 one off payment.
Six month pay monthly – £7.50 per month.

Sainsburys Delivery Pass

There are two separate Sainsbury’s delivery passes; the anytime pass and the midweek pass (Tuesday – Thursday only).

Both of these passes are valid for one year and have a minimum spend of £40.00.

The anytime pass costs £100.00 per year (effectively £8.33 per month) and the midweek pass costs £75.00 per year (effectively £6.25 per month).

Ocado Delivery Pass

Ocado’s delivery pass is now part of their newer smart pass service which includes elements of Ocado’s two previous separately operated services delivery pass and saving pass.

Ocado offer two main delivery plans within their smart pass service; anytime and midweek (Tuesday to Thursday only).

Ocado’s three anytime plans

(Prices vary, below based on the Coventry area. Some parts of the UK from £9.17 per month).

Annual £109.99
Six monthly £49.99
Monthly £10.99

Ocado’s three midweek plans

(Prices vary, below based on the Coventry area. Some parts of the UK from £5.83 per month).

Annual £69.99
Six monthly £34.99
Monthly £6.99

We would point out that at this current time (late 2013) only Asda and Tesco allow for delivering non-grocery items such as clothing, wine and their Direct products. We would envision that this service will expand greatly into 2014 with many more retailers coming on board and existing retailers expanding their product range that allows for using delivery pass.
